A 90-year old Birmingham woman has been treated to a surprise ‘flypast’ from a vintage double-decker bus for her lockdown birthday party, thanks to National Express West Midlands (NXWM).
NXWM received a letter from Jane Mason requesting that drivers offer an extra-special wave to her mother, Pauline Mason, as they passed by her house at the terminus of the number 7 and 65 bus routes in Perry Common. It was to be a treat for her 90th birthday, as social distancing measures meant most of the fesitivites were cancelled.
Recalling photos of a Birmingham Corporation bus at the terminus by Pauline’s house in the 1960s, Service Delivery Officer Tony Hunter went one step further and personally drove one of NXWM’s historic double-deckers to Pauline’s house for a special reunion.
Jane says: “I nearly cried when National Express called to ask if we wanted the vintage bus to come to mum’s party. This was even more than I’d hoped for.”
The iconic cream and navy bus arrived outside her house during the party – and Pauline was even treated to a ride around the block.
