Despite many Pride Month events being cancelled due to COVID-19, Go North East (GNE) has looked to alternative ways to promote diversity in June.
Initiatives include sponsorship of Pride Radio’s ‘What Pride Means to Me’ documentary, aired Sunday 20 June, which also saw a number of GNE’s employees take part by contributing soundbites, a demonstration of the GNE rainbow bus at Royal Quay Outlet Centre where the team engaged with shoppers, and promotion of Pride Month through the operator’s social media.
The employee led inclusivity initiative, One Team GNE, also continues its work addressing six themes selected by members of the workforce. They include LGBTQ inclusion, mental health and wellbeing, disability and inclusion, community engagement, gender equality and ethnicity.
“Celebrating diversity is at the very heart of our company,” says Go North East Commercial Director Stephen King. “Usually we’d attend Pride events each year, but sadly many events have been cancelled this year, so we’ve looked for other opportunities to help champion diversity across our workforce and with the local community.
“Over the years, we’ve launched a number of Pride buses, and we now have three in our fleet that fly the flag for diversity all year round. We hope to see you all at an event again soon.”
