Stagecoach South apprentice driver Ryan Goodridge has been placed in the spotlight after completing his apprenticeship in Andover.

It comes alongside National Apprenticeship Week which this year is celebrated from 7-13 February.

Ryan completed the bus driving apprenticeship programme, which is conducted over 14 months. It covers driving licence training, the national driver training programme and mentoring.

10 workshops develop the knowledge, skills and behaviour that Ryan and his fellow trainee drivers need for their role. They cover accident prevention, safety, technical problem solving, legal compliance, and driving/decision making. An additional three workshops then prepare apprentices for their end point assessment, where they are observed and reviewed in service.

“I’m so pleased to have completed the apprenticeship programme; it really does give you a great background and understanding of the role and business to start your career off in the industry,” Ryan says.

The apprenticeships are delivered in partnership with training provider Realise. The company also provides adult learning courses and development programmes across the UK.

“The Stagecoach bus driving apprenticeship is a great programme, and a direction that many may not have thought of pursuing when thinking about their career choices,” says Stagecoach South Operations Director Gordon Frost. “The programme covers every aspect of the driving role, from customer service to understanding legal compliance, route planning and of course putting apprentices through their Certificate of Professional Competence licence training.

“As you can see with our current apprentices, the programme is open to everyone and we encourage people to take a look at our current opportunities and join us, it’s a great way of getting into the industry and there are plenty of chances on progressing throughout the business.”
