Miles Dorrington has been appointed Acting Traffic Commissioner by Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps and deployed to the West Midlands traffic area by Senior Traffic Commissioner Richard Turfitt.
Mr Dorrington steps up having acted as a Deputy Traffic Commissioner since 2008, when he was one of six appointees to that role.
He will take up the Traffic Commissioner appointment from 22 August and will step down once a permanent appointment is made.
The vacancy has arisen after the retirement of previous incumbent Nick Denton on 31 May. Mr Denton remains in post as a Deputy Traffic Commissioner.
As a former barrister and solicitor, Mr Dorrington also has experience as a judge. In the more distant past he has appeared as an advocate at Public Inquiries, having led the road transport regulatory team for a large legal practice in Bristol for several years.
No date has been given for when a permanent Traffic Commissioner for the West Midlands will be appointed.
