Morebus has joined forces with Tricuro’s Community Outreach Support Team (COAST) in Poole in a collaboration aimed at fostering independence and employment among locals with long-term health conditions or disabilities.

The partnership focuses on providing essential travel training, equipping vulnerable community members with the skills to use public transport confidently as they pursue workplace opportunities.

Morebus, a subsidiary of Go-Ahead, is contributing by supplying bus passes. The passes are used by COAST’s community support workers and employment support coordinators, enabling them to prepare individuals for independent travel.

Richard Wade, General Manager of Morebus, says: “COAST does an excellent job, making sure more people in the region have the chance to take employment – and travelling independently on public transport is an important part of that. Through our community fund, we are pleased to be able to support COAST in its very worthwhile activities by providing free travel for its trainers.”

Bianca Rose, Day Opportunities Manager for COAST, adds: “It’s great to see the people we work with gain independence and feel more confident when catching the bus, which is key to enable individuals to be able to travel safely to and from work opportunities within the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area.

“The team supports individuals to identify which buses to take on their journey, safe places to wait, how to board buses safely, use their bus passes, how to depart the bus and recognise destination landmarks. It’s very rewarding to see individuals grow in confidence and be able to travel safely and independently – which enables individuals to make the very best of any work opportunities available. The help we receive from Morebus’ community fund is absolutely invaluable.”

Morebus’s community fund, which supports the initiative, is open to all, from charities to sports teams, and the company encourages anyone in need, regardless of the scale of their requirement, to apply.
