The field for the UK Bus Driver of the Year 2024 National Final is almost full but organisers have extended the entry deadline to 31 May to allow as many operators as possible to put their staff forward.
As of 17 May, 101 entries were confirmed. The contest will be held in Blackpool on Sunday 1 September, with entrants so far from large and small operators alike, organisers say.
They add that vehicle manufacturers and industry suppliers interested in the many sponsorship opportunities are also welcome to make contact. Operators that put drivers forward are invited to make a bus available for the driving tests.
Speaking about the entry deadline extension, UK Bus Driver of the Year Chairman Joe Mackie says: “The 2024 National Final marks 56 years of Bus Driver of the Year, which was first run in 1967 as a local contest in Coventry and subsequently grew into a national event.
“We are particularly keen to have more entries from all sectors of the industry as the National Final is a fantastic place for operators of all sizes to showcase their drivers’ skills and especially their commitment to excellent customer service.”
The 2023 National Final, held in fine weather on the Fylde coast, saw National Express West Midlands man Lee Grantham claim the Bus Driver of the Year honour.
In addition to silverware, Mr Grantham took home £4,100 in prize money across a multitude of trophy wins. He was one of 119 entries in 2023, which organisers said was a record for the National Final.
