Stagecoach South has donated a London bus to St Jude’s Primary School in Portsmouth, for use as a classroom.
The number 158 bus is now parked in the playground while the school raises enough money to develop an electricity supply for it. It will ask for help from local businesses and hold a school fundraising week.
The school is hoping to work with Portsmouth University design students to create an interior for the unique new classroom.
Natalie Wilcox, Teacher at St Jude’s Primary School, says: “It will be such a thrill for the children to have lessons set in a real piece of British history.
“Providing innovative and exciting environments for them to learn is hugely important, and this bus is just the ticket.
“We would like to thank Stagecoach South for their kind donation, and hope that the rest of the community will help us raise the money needed to get it up and running – albeit in a stationary capacity!”
Stacey Churton, Marketing Manager at Stagecoach South, says: “We are thrilled to gift this iconic bus to St Jude’s. It is wonderful to see the children and teachers so excited at the prospect of turning it into such a unique learning space. We’d encourage businesses and the wider community to get behind the school’s fundraising campaign and deliver a great classroom for the children.”
