Transport for London (TfL) has revealed that three more routes will be converted to operation with battery electric double-deckers, with a combined PVR of 52. The news was contained in TfL’s latest contract awards notification, issued last week.
Route 23, retained by Tower Transit, and service 319, which stays with Arriva London South, will occupy 24 and 19 of those buses respectively.
Service C3, to move from Abellio London to Tower Transit, accounts for the remaining nine. The 23 is a 24-hour service, as is the 319 at weekends.
The new contracts commence no sooner than 25 July 2020. TfL says that the conversion to zero-emission operation may occur later owing to infrastructure delivery timescales.
Routes 43 and 134, operated by Metroline, are in the process of moving to battery electric double-deckers. They are using the BYD ADL Enviro400EV (pictured) and the Optare Metrodecker EV respectively.
