The Traffic Commissioner (TC) is considering calling easyCoach to a Public Inquiry after the firm terminated all its bus services at short notice.
The Skiers Lodge, trading as easyCoach, started a head-to-head battle with Arriva on the Oswestry-Wrexham route on 27 June alongside a promise that its fares would always be cheaper, and running on timings designed to abstract Arriva passengers (routeone, News, 20 June).
It also ran three other Wrexham routes, along with a Chester-Liverpool airport, Shrewsbury-Manchester Airport and a contracted Bridgnorth town service.
However, Andrew Martin, 54, the man behind the venture applied for a short-notice de-registration, which has been accepted by the TC, to cancel all services from Sunday (9 September). He alleges “certain individuals have been out to sabotage the business.”
Allegations have been made about maintenance failings and failures to operate services. Additionally, the TC is examining reports that the firm was operating in Wales without an O-Licence.
