The Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE) has announced the return of its Bus and Coach Skills Challenge for 2025, marking its 13th year as the premier event showcasing the expertise of engineers and technicians in the industry.
The competition is open to operators of all sizes across the UK and will take place from 2-6 June once again at the S&B Automotive Academy in Bristol.
The Skills Challenge spotlights engineers at every stage of their careers, from apprentices to seasoned professionals. Participants undergo a range of rigorous tests that assess theoretical and practical knowledge in areas such as electrical systems, mechanical engineering, and bodywork.
IRTE says interest in this year’s challenge is already high, with both returning competitors and newcomers eager to participate.
“The competition provides a unique arena for learning, growth, and recognition, empowering engineers to push their limits and rise to the challenge,” says a spokesperson. “The IRTE Bus and Coach Skills Challenge is on a mission to address the skills gap by inspiring and empowering the next generation of technicians.
“Through this initiative, the industry can support professional development while celebrating the dedication and expertise that drives the coach and bus sector forward. Whether you’re an experienced technician, an apprentice, or a coach and bus operator, don’t miss the chance to be part of this pioneering event.”
The deadline for registration is 30 April. Winners and runners up will be celebrated at an awards evening in July.
