Go-Ahead Group subsidiary Morebus has collaborated with National Highways to secure minimal impact on bus routes during roadworks at Canford Bottom in Dorset.
Through early intervention and communication with National Highways, Morebus has arranged for special access for its 13 and 13a bus routes that will allow its evening services to navigate through a scheduled roundabout closure on the A31, which starts from 19 February.
The arrangement sidesteps a potential 30-minute detour that would have inconvenienced passengers during the evening commute, and showcases the potential benefits of early engagement and joint planning in mitigating the impacts of roadworks on public transport.
Mike Freeborn, Operations Manager at Morebus, praises the co-operative spirit exhibited by National Highways. “National Highways contacted us very early on to inform us of these forthcoming maintenance works, and this allowed us to make these special arrangements,” he says. “Working closely with the highways team meant we were able to avoid an excessively long evening diversion. This is really good news for us, and for our customers.
“This is an excellent example of how positive collaboration can make a real difference to those travelling by bus across the region. I’d like to thank National Highways for its foresight and planning. Its willingness to work with us has ensured our customers are able to go about their daily commute with the least amount of impact.”
