Tower Transit is set to enhance the travel experience for bus passengers in the Channel Islands by ensuring they have easy access to accurate and timely service information.
The operator will do so by integrating Omnibus’ General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) Exporter into its operations.
The tool streamlines the transfer of service schedules from Tower Transit’s cloud-based Omnibus scheduling system to various customer-facing digital platforms, such as journey planners and real-time information displays.
The GTFS Exporter will automate the conversion of complex scheduling data into a universally compliant format that is then fed to passengers. Omnibus, known for its expertise in developing interoperable data sharing solutions, brings to the table a wealth of experience from working with international standards like the UK’s TransXChange, Europe’s VDV, and Australia’s TODIS.
Says Sam Greaves, Commercial Manager at Tower Transit: “It is crucial for Tower Transit to stay ahead in the evolving landscape of passenger transport. The GTFS Exporter will ensure Tower Transit can easily and accurately get fixed route service information into the hands of customers using our LibertyBus (Jersey) and buses.gg (Guernsey) brands in the Channel Islands.”
Peter Crichton, Founder of Omnibus, highlights the efficiency gains from automating data structuring within the export files. “Structuring data in the expected format within a data export file is an overwhelming task,” he says. “To make this process faster and easier, our timetabling solution (OmniTIMES) automatically does this in the background. This allows users to keep their focus on writing timetables and plotting the routes, and our exporter modules do all the heavy lifting of creating compliant exports.”
