National Express says passenger numbers on its 30 routes direct to university campuses have increased by 12% as the new academic year began this September.

Travel to Liverpool, Nottingham and Cardiff Universities has seen the biggest increases of 185%, 115% and 55% respectively. Others with increased popularity include the University of East Anglia in Norwich (42%), Oxford Brookes (38%) and Swansea University Bay Campus (35%).

National Express Coach Managing Director Chris Hardy said: “Students are cost conscious and have always loved the great value for money coach travel offers alongside its unrivalled national network serving all major university cities.

“But they are also savvy travellers who recognise the great benefits of coach travel with us. They have a guaranteed seat with air conditioning, can enjoy films, TV and magazines through our complimentary onboard entertainment VUER app, and all importantly for the ‘always connected generation’, power sockets and free WiFi.”

Adult single fares on many of the routes offering direct to campus travel start at £5.  Students can also benefit from a Young Persons Coachcard giving then 1/3 off standard fares.

National Express runs straight-to-campus services for the following universities:
