Centurion Travel has taken delivery of a tri-axle i4 integral, supplied by Irizar UK. It takes to just shy of £2m the investment made in Euro VI coaches by the Midsomer Norton operator to comply with the Bath Clean Air Zone.
The 13.6m coach is for use on school transport in that city. It is PSVAR compliant and has 80 PPS seats in a 3+2 configuration and with three-point belts. They are in a theatre style thanks to a slightly rising flat floor.
A Masats KS7 wheelchair user lift is mounted within the underfloor locker, while all travellers benefit from individual passenger service units. Entertainment is via a Bosch Smart Series radio, CD and PA unit that also incorporates Bluetooth compatibility.
Power comes from the DAF MX-11 engine developing 367bhp and 1,900Nm of torque. Drive is taken through a ZF Traxon 12-speed automated manual gearbox, while ZF has also supplied a steering rear axle that greatly assists manoeuvrability.
Says Centurion Travel Director Steve Spiller: “The Irizar i4 integral is certainly turning heads and people are already asking questions about it. Everyone loves the interior design, and it feels like you are walking into a posh cinema.”
