The atmosphere was better than ever at the 2023 IRTE Skills Challenge. Competition was fierce but fun, as 60 apprentices and technicians showed off their mechanical, electrical and bodywork skills.
Richard Belton from S&B Academy agrees that there is renewed excitement among teams this year:
“They’re really pushing it from their side…it’s highlighting the skills that they’ve developed within the industry… that has advanced so much in the last five to ten years,” he says.
While their teams were put through their paces in the official competition, managers also had the chance to demonstrate their competitiveness in a mini challenge.
Now the hard work is done, it’s time to look ahead to our prestigious awards. All those who stepped up to the challenge from Arriva, Excel Resourcing, First Bus, Go-Ahead, Lothian, Metroline, National Express and Trentbarton are invited to celebrate their achievements and congratulate the winners.
The fact that the event is stronger than ever in its 12th year owes much to our assessors, from S&B Academy, Knorr-Bremse and DVSA, who are determined to keep the tests relevant and up to date.
We also rely on the generous support of our sponsors, FCL, Imperial Engineering, Knorr-Bremse, Teng Tools and Freeway.
The IRTE Skills Challenge Awards event takes place at Jaguar Experience in Castle Bromwich on 7 September and promises to be a highlight of the year for the coach and bus sector.
