Campaign group BRTuk will commence a further series of free-to-attend lunchtime masterclasses on bus rapid transit and the wider future of the industry in the UK on 19 May.
The Thursday sessions will be hosted on Zoom between 1230-1330hrs. They follow a series of such events held in autumn 2021 that BRTuk Chair and former First West of England Managing Director James Freeman says were “most successful” and which generated good attendances and lively discussion.
Portsmouth City Council Rapid Transit Development Manager Peter Shelley will open the 2022 season on 19 May. He will look at the local authority’s Bus Service Improvement Plan – one of those that has been funded – under the title of Be careful what you wish for. Mr Shelley will be followed by:
- 26 May: Angela Hosford, Transport for West Midlands Head of Sprint, will update attendees on Sprint progress
- 9 June: Tony Brown, Atkins Consultants Technical Director, will examine intelligent bus priority
- 16 June: Helena Rosenkilda Christensen will discuss Busveien in Stavanger, Norway, where 50km of busway is being developed
- 23 June: Thomas Ableman, Transport for London Director of Innovation, will make a presentation titled Why innovate?
- 30 June: Shane Hymers, Fastrack Development Manager at Kent County Council, will brief attendees on work on Fastrack
- 7 July: Bob Montgomery of busreinvented.com and former Stagecoach UK Bus Managing Director, will host a wide-ranging discussion called UK Bus: Delivering the promised land – sharing the spend and the spoils.
“We have come up with a varied programme of seven fascinating speakers, combining information about scheme developments with more general topics about the future of UK bus,” adds Mr Freeman. Registration to attend can be undertaken by email.
