Disability transport aids specialist Faiveley Vapor Ricon Europe has unveiled a lightweight inboard wheelchair lift as part of a concerted effort to grow its presence in the minibus and minicoach market.
The Loughborough-based company – formerly Vapor Ricon Europe – is already active in the sector and says that it is targeting growth across its range, which includes doors, floors, lifts, ramps and seats.
“We can go to any minibus or minicoach converter and provide a kit,” says Business Unit Manager Paul Hemingway. “We already supply most with lifts and we intend to build on that.”
The new lift, made principally from aluminium, is in the final stages of testing. It delivers a saving of up to 70kg over other lifts and has a reduced space claim with the vehicle. An outboard example is under investigation, says Mr Hemingway.
Floors are another area where the company says it sees room to grow its business and it has a new type that, like the lift, is lighter than others. Adds Mr Hemingway. “Operators deal directly with us and we are committed to supporting all of our products.”
