Go North West has become accredited as a Real Living Wage employer, voluntarily signing up to a commitment to pay more than the legal minimum wage.
The Go-Ahead subsidiary, which operates services on behalf of Transport for Greater Manchester as part of the Bee Network, employs around 1,000 staff, mainly in Bolton and Wigan.
Real Living Wage for outside of London is £12.00 per hour, the rate being calculated annually by the Resolution Foundation as the actual wage needed to meet the cost of living.
The legal minimum wage, known as the “National Living Wage” for those over 21, is currently £11.44 per hour.
Connor Lomas, Head of People at Go North West, says: “We recognise the key role our employees play in serving and connecting the areas where we all live.
“We want to support our colleagues and these communities by fulfilling our responsibility as a major employer in Greater Manchester.”
Go North West has already achieved “supporter” status for Greater Manchester’s Good Employment Charter.
Mr Lomas adds: “By partnering with the Real Living Wage Foundation, we’re in great company as we join more than 15,000 accredited employers. We’re really proud to be a part of the movement.”
Other coach and bus operators accredited as Real Living Wage employers are: First Bus, Stagecoach London, Abellio London, Transport for London, Diamond North West, Metroline, Cardiff Bus, Shuttle Buses, National Express, Kineil Coaches, KT’s Coaches of Kendal, Stotts Tours (Oldham), Shandon Travel, Prentice Coaches and Longmynd Travel.
