The Winchester-based Friends of King Alfred Buses (FoKAB) will be running its Original King Alfred Running Day in and around the city on May Bank Holiday (Monday 6 May).
Around 10 traditional King Alfred buses, ranging in age from 88 years old to a mere 49, will be recreating the old days in company with 20 or so buses from other local operators.
Free bus services will operate based on Winchester Broadway and the Cattle Market car park between approximately 0900-1700hrs covering most of the traditional King Alfred routes, plus those of neighbouring historic companies such as Aldershot and District, and Hants and Dorset.
There will be the usual transport bazaar in Winchester Guildhall, open between 1000-1600hrs, while at the Cattle Market there will be a static display of historic vehicles with a frequent free bus service to and from central Winchester.
Ample car parking will be available at St Catherine’s Park and Ride with frequent free buses to and from the city centre.
