Maynes Coaches has continued to demonstrate high standards of compliance with receipt of a gold rating from the Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS), which is managed by the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE), and the concurrent award of Workshop Accreditation by IRTE for its facilities in Buckie.
Those sit alongside membership of DVSA Earned Recognition, a renewal audit for which was passed in February. Maynes has also completed the Earned Recognition PSV Private Hire module to maintain its two-decade membership of the Guild of British Coach Operators.
MPRS was introduced in 2025. It seeks to raise commercial vehicle workshop standards and provide independent recognition for those premises. While IRTE manages MPRS, it has drawn support from DVSA, the Department for Transport, and the Traffic Commissioners.
The gold rating is for large or advanced workshops with exceptional staff qualifications, facilities and communications systems, and which can handle conventional and advanced vehicle technologies. Maynes has a number of battery-electric coaches to leverage that.
Director Kevin Mayne notes that being part of MPRS is an asset to the operator and that the host of maintenance and compliance-based accreditations and memberships “are a benchmark indicator of the standards that we have upheld for five generations of our family business.”
He continues: “We believe it is important for the commercial vehicle industry to set new standards, and that being accredited within these schemes is incredibly beneficial for our company.
“These include being able to demonstrate our longstanding commitment to quality and professionalism, and enhance our credibility to our clients and industry partners.”

For IRTE Workshop Accreditation, a series of audits were passed by Maynes. Those involved independent review of procedures and practices across areas such as premises, equipment, technical and clerical staff, management, documentation, quality, and appearance.
Membership of IRTE Workshop Accreditation lasts for three years, at which point renewal is required. In addition, every member of the Maynes Coaches workshop team has completed IRTEC accreditation over recent years.
Speaking about the verified quality of its in-house maintenance and compliance, Mr Mayne says: “In 2023, Maynes became the first privately-owned Scottish coach operator to achieve DVSA Earned Recognition membership. At present, we are still the only privately-owned Scottish operator approved within the scheme.
“We are extremely proud of every member of our team, who all work at an incredibly high standard, excel within the guidelines of such prestigious industry schemes, and uphold the high quality and standards expected of a Guild of British Coach Operators member.
“In 2027 we will be celebrating our 80th anniversary. It is safe to say that we have both the experience and the credentials behind us. We are proud to be the name to trust in travel since 1947.”
