App and website provider Passenger has unveiled a series of new feature that provide real-time information to users by leveraging up-to-date information from multiple sources. The supplier says it will help bus companies to mitigate the operational challenges brought about by staff shortages.
Travellers using Passenger’s Premium apps and websites can now see when buses are impacted by late running or cancellations, with expected arrival times viewable for each segment of their journey.
Individual cancelled trips can now be removed from journey planners and departure boards by the operator, which Passenger says makes its offering “the most accurate journey planning solution in the market.”
In addition, the new technology helps passengers to make informed travel decisions by showing warnings when they may be impacted by delays.
Says Passenger CEO Tom Quay: “With staff shortages causing issues for many public transport operators, it is crucial for the members of the industry to support one another and continue to uphold the aims of the National Bus Strategy.
“The shortages have exacerbated an existing concern around the reliability of public transport – so producing more accurate data has become more important than ever before.”
Mr Quay adds that Passenger has combined multiple data streams to ensure that up-to-the-minute travel information is provided. Its apps and websites cross-reference real-time information from stop monitoring data to deliver expected arrival times and remove journeys that are cancelled.
“These new updates form an ongoing process at Passenger to relieve operator pressure and inspire more people to opt for public transport as a first choice travel option.”
