Southport fam includes opportunity to see rare red squirrels

Southport in Merseyside will hold a special groups showcase in September with the title The Quest for the Red Squirrels.

Organised by Visit Southport working with Steve Reed Tourism, the event on 23-25 September will welcome tour planners to the Ramada Plaza Hotel for two nights and take in several local attractions, including the National Trust’s Red Squirrel Reserve in Formby.

It will also visit the Atkinson art gallery in Southport; Antony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’ on Crosby beach; Southport Pier; the botanical gardens of Churchtown village; WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre; and the Courtyard at Tarleton shopping centre.

Steve Christian, Destination Development Manager for Visit Southport, says: “Southport is a seaside resort which understands groups, coach travellers and touring – it’s always put the red carpet out for coach parties, and nowadays it’s the red squirrels!

“The very best way to showcase our great group offer is to invite serious tour planners to sample it for themselves. The event in September provides just that – hotels, attractions, scenery, wildlife and art, not to mention great shopping.”
