The Harrogate Bus Company, part of the Transdev Blazefield group, has been crowned winner of the Environment Award in the UK Better Society Awards for its Harrogate Electrics project.

Harrogate Electrics uses a fleet of Volvo 7900e electric buses that take advantage of opportunity charging in the town’s bus station. It was recognised alongside other winners including Deutsche Bank, ITV, O2, Morrisons and Warner Brothers.

Says CEO Alex Hornby: “We’re immensely proud to be the first in the UK to introduce these buses, and at the same time, to achieve our vision of creating Britain’s first low-emission bus town.

“The buses have already gained positive recognition from within the industry, but to win such a prestigious award is amazing.”
