The Young Bus Professionals Network will hold its autumn conference in Southampton on 1-2 October and says the event will offer an exciting agenda to inspire those attending.
Host venue will be the Novotel Southampton, close to Southampton Central railway station. The Young Bus Professionals Network was formerly the Young Bus Managers Network and its latest conference is expected to draw delegates from the public and private sector areas of the industry.
Activities will start on the afternoon of Wednesday 1 October with a visit to refurbishment specialist Hants and Dorset Trim, which is part of the Go-Ahead Group.
That evening, Go-Ahead CEO, Bus, Matt Carney will serve as after-dinner speaker and share insights and observations from experience of running buses both in the UK and in his native Australia.
On the second day, delegates will hear from transport professionals in a variety of modes and disciplines. They include Wightlink Ferries CEO Katy Taylor; Portsmouth City Council Head of Passenger Transport Paul Walker; Stagecoach South East Managing Director Joel Mitchell; and Bluestar General Manager Richard Tyldsley.
Also to speak is former BBC Transport Correspondent Paul Clifton. He has been a passionate advocate of public transport for many years and will deliver what the Network says is “a different view on our industry.”
Support for the Young Bus Professionals Network comes from the Chris Moyes Scholarship Trust, which is an informal not-for-profit organisation to help develop the bus industry and the next generation of leaders. Mr Moyes was a founder of the Go-Ahead Group and died in 2006.
Organisation of the gathering has been by Go South Coast Operations Director David Lee-Kong, Stagecoach Yorkshire Managing Director Matt Kitchin, and Nottingham City Transport Head of Operations David Conway.
Comments Mr Lee-Kong: “The support from our industry and partners towards the Network continues to be excellent, and it is thanks to them that we have a great agenda at our autumn conference. We look forward to young professionals gathering for what promises to be an exciting two days in Southampton.”
