DVSA has relaxed the requirements for periodic calibration and inspection of tachograph units because of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
Until further notice, all tachograph calibration and inspection expiry dates will be extended by three months. However, that does not permit any defects found with tachographs to be ignored.
DVSA says all units must function as required by the relevant legislation and that any faults with a tachograph system must be repaired as normal. Additionally, the tachograph is still required to be sealed in line with requirements.
Initial calibrations, and any changes to parameters – such as tyre size or vehicle registration – must be actioned as normal. Further guidance has been issued that applied to operations at tachograph centres during the pandemic.
