Nottingham City Transport makes senior management changes

Nottingham City Transport (NCT) has announced several changes to its senior management team, including the retirement of Engineering Director Gary Mason at the end of 2021.

Also stepping down from the board will be Marketing Director Nicola Tidy. However, Ms Tidy will remain with NCT in a part-time role as Strategic Projects Manager, where she will continue to oversee ticketing and IT developments.

In view of those changes, Liam O’Brien (pictured, left) – currently Chief Engineer – has been appointed Head of Engineering, and Anthony Carver-Smith (pictured, right), presently Marketing Manager, has been promoted to Head of Marketing. Additionally, Head of HR Ben Potgieter has elevated to the position of HR Director. All three appointments will take effect on 1 September.

Mr Potgieter thus joins the NCT board, which has been slimmed down to three Executive Directors “in view of the uncertainty of the future shape and size of the business in the post-COVID-19 environment,” says the operator. He will sit alongside Managing Director David Astill and Finance Director and Deputy MD Rob Hicklin.

Summarising the changes, Mr Astill says: “These alterations represent the biggest change in two decades to a very stable management team at Nottingham City Transport. While it is a big step, it is actually the culmination of an evolutionary process.

“I am particularly pleased that these three promotions demonstrate this company’s ethos of nurturing and developing its own staff as preparation for more senior roles. We are entering a period of great uncertainty, but also great opportunity as we drive our business through the recovery period. I am confident that we have the mix of personalities and collective abilities to succeed as a team and a business.”

Mr Astill was himself promoted to the role of MD in April following the retirement of Mark Fowles.
