Purfleet-based Ensignbus has been supporting the weekly ‘clap for the NHS’ event by sending a bus loaded with donations to Basildon Hospital each Thursday.
On Thursday 23 April the double-decker, which is crewed by two drivers, conveyed 15,000 ponchos donated by fellow operator Golden Tours. It also took other items including biscuits, chocolates, sweets and tea.
On the Thursday prior to the Easter weekend Ensignbus delivered 1,600 Easter eggs donated by local residents, shops and Ensignbus and its staff to the NHS. Loading such a quantity of eggs onto the bus “was quite an achievement,” says Chairman Peter Newman.
“The drivers who take the bus to the hospital are the two that have put in all the work to convince various local stores and companies to donate,” he adds.
