Transport for Greater Manchester’s (TfGM) Chief Executive has been appointed the new President of European Metropolitan Transport Authorities (EMTA).
Dr Jon Lamonte replaces Wolfgang Schroll, current joint Chief Executive Officer of Vienna-based transport authority Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR).
The appointment was confirmed last week (16 November) at the latest EMTA conference which was held in Manchester.
The EMTA – a non-profit seeking association – brings together 26 metropolitan transport authorities from across the continent, to enable the exchange of best practice, information, research and experience among members.
The inaugural meeting of the group was held in Paris in 1998, meaning it has almost 20 years’ experience in providing transport expertise for its members.
Jon says: “I am delighted to have been named as President of this organisation, which carries within it a phenomenal amount of expertise and experience in the transport sector.”
Jon joined TfGM in February 2013 from his previous role as Chief Executive Officer of Tube Lines, a subsidiary company of Transport for London with responsibility for the safe and reliable operation of the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines. Prior to this he held a range of senior roles in the Royal Air Force and Ministry of Defence.
