Three Transdev Blazefield staff members have become members of the VRT PCV Driving Instructor Register, which the operator says is a first time that the qualification has been awarded to PCV driving instructors in England.

Dominic Atlas, Gordon Brown and Gavin Roberts have completed the necessary training to become part of the register, a process that took three months. Facilitator Pride Training notes how the accreditation sets a new national benchmark for excellence in PCV driver instruction and is the only such register supported by DVSA.

Each driving instructor who is part of the register must demonstrate an unwavering commitment to exceptional road safety awareness, driving and instructional standards, professionalism, and their wider responsibilities.

Transdev Blazefield is the second operator in the UK to see its instructors join the register, following a successful pilot programme with First Glasgow. Mr Atlas, Mr Brown and Mr Roberts had to pass three tests to be accredited:

    • Theory: Examining their knowledge of road procedures, coach and bus operational knowledge, driving laws, and instructional techniques
    • Driving: Challenging their reversing and on-road skills
    • Instructional ability: Demonstrating lesson planning, risk management, and teaching and learning strategies in a live instructor-trainee scenario.

Three more of the operator’s driving instructors are to undergo the VRT training process from January 2026. This year, Transdev Blazefield will train over 100 drivers to PCV standard via its The Academy set-up, and has recruited almost 100 more that already hold a licence.

Speaking about the VRT work, Transdev Blazefield Training Manager Dale French says: “Joining this highly regarded register is certainly no walk in the park; we are immensely proud of our colleagues Gordon, Dominic and Gavin for achieving this additional qualification, and our training programme here at The Academy.

“This is another valuable feather in our training team’s cap, demonstrating once again why Transdev Blazefield is viewed as industry leader in recruitment and in-house development.”

Pride Training Managing Director Steve Morison adds: “As the VRT Registrar, I am particularly pleased to see Transdev Blazefield instructors achieve registration.

“The VRT is the only PCV driving instructor register supported by DVSA, and it now sets the national benchmark for PCV driving instructors in the UK.”
