I have just noticed a new road sign that has been placed on all the zebra crossings near the Easterly end of the Ruislip Road in Greenford Middlesex.
The sign shows a cyclists being allowed to traverse a Zebra Crossing without dismounting.
We already have enough problems with cyclists on our roads without the London Borough of Ealing giving them more reason to cross a zebra crossing without taking proper care.
I am a cyclist myself so this is not a war on them, but everyone is looking at how to improve cyclists behaviour on our busy roads.
There are areas that in the rush hour look like an uncensored bike race. How many deaths does it require before there’s a law change?
There is no qualification for cyclists to come on the roads with all other licensed and insured users, no compulsory training, no test and no insurance for any damage caused in the event of an accident where the cyclist is at fault.
I can’t imagine what the thinking is behind this new signage, but if it is to change the zebra into a toucan crossing that’s controlled by traffic lights then surely you don’t put the signage on the road first, if this is not waiting for another cyclist to die I don’t know what is.
