Cuckmere Buses of East Sussex has adopted a next-generation dual-view dashcam product from SureCam that the community transport operator says will give additional protection to its team of volunteer drivers.

The bespoke solution has been rolled out across the organisation’s fleet of minibuses. It succeeds a previous SureCam system that the charity adds has helped to improve driver welfare and eliminate false and exaggerated insurance claims and complaints.

Earlier in 2026, the charity decided to upgrade to the latest solution to take advantage of improvements to connectivity, video quality, and tracking accuracy.

That latest installation uses the most up-to-date dashcam from SureCam, to which is added a supplementary internal camera fitted flush to the rear window. The supplier has developed a bespoke casing for the latter to minimise glare from vehicles’ lights at night, which was impacting the clarity and usability of footage.

Added functionality and a live camera view are proving useful for real-time fleet monitoring, the operator says. That gives added insight into what occurs on the road, especially when delays are encountered.

Cuckmere Buses also plans to take advantage of a comprehensive reporting package to analyse driver behaviour, manage maintenance requirements, and identify areas of fleet improvement.

Engineering Director Wayne Evenden notes how the charity’s minibuses occupy a team of 40 volunteer drivers on around 20 timetabled services and carry over 80,000 passengers per year.

“With mainly rural routes connecting villages and towns in the area, the drivers often face challenging driving conditions along narrow roads with poor visibility, so the video telematics plays a crucial role in ensuring their wellbeing at all times,” he continues.

Working with SureCam allows Cuckmere Buses to protect those staff proactively, “while maintaining trust in our service and continuously improving how we operate,” Mr Evenden concludes.

SureCam Partnership Director Sam Footer adds: “Cuckmere Buses provides a valuable service to its local community, so we are delighted that we can support it with a specially designed vehicle telematics solution.

“We work closely with every customer to ensure that we meet all fleet requirements, exceed expectations and deliver value, helping them to achieve measurable business and operational improvements.”
