Grayson Thermal Systems expands zero emission bus auxiliary water heater range
SHARE

Grayson Thermal Systems has grown its auxiliary heating solutions for zero-emission bus models range with the EW3, EW4 and EW5 high-performance electric water heaters.

They are to meet rising demand for reliable variable coolant heating in high-voltage battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell-electric applications and are described by the supplier as being “intelligent thermal management that is future ready.”

They cover a broad spectrum of heading needs for cabin HVAC and/or powertrain systems. The EW3 suits cold ambient climates with its 7kW output, while the EW4 (pictured) at 10kW output is designed for high-demand heating in large platforms or extreme cold conditions. Both utilise 800V DC.

The EW5 is a 5kW unit at 350V DC and is ideal for what Grayson describes as mid-sized powertrain circuits or cabin heating in lower-voltage electrical systems.

All three models use positive temperature coefficient technology to ensure self-regulating thermal output for improved safety and energy efficiency.

With CAN-controlled logic for variable heat output, real-time fault detection, and built-in over-temperature protection, each unit is engineered for what is termed “seamless plug-and-play integration into complex vehicle and equipment platforms.”

Grayson has seen its involvement with zero-emission bus heaters and support of those units increase rapidly. The new products reflect the quickly advancing pace of that market, says Head of European Sales and Marketing Matthew Hateley.

“Our new electric water heaters are more than just heating elements – they are high-voltage-ready, fully protected thermal modules built to support the electrification shift to higher voltages that are being seen across the bus sector.

“By offering modular solutions that span multiple voltage levels and variable heat outputs, we are giving [vehicle] OEMs the flexibility and confidence to integrate smarter, more efficient auxiliary heating.”
