Ticketer is working on video campaigns with Bus Users UK and Women in Transport to encourage greater bus use among females and more women to consider a career in the industry, respectively, in what the supplier says is an industry first.
The first of those videos (viewable below) is in partnership with Bus Users UK and is titled Making Public Transport Even Safer. It forms part of Catch the Bus Month in September and aims to increase safety on board buses and encourage more women to use the mode.
Such an initiative provides an action plan for passengers to follow and advice on spotting signs of abuse and what to do in those instances, in addition to offering guidance to operators “on how to make bus travel even safer to improve the passenger experience,” Ticketer adds.
The second campaign is called Women Behind the Wheel: Driving Diversity in Transport. It seeks to empower women in the bus industry and increase organisational standards for better female representation in positions of authority. Ticketer notes that while 60% of the UK’s bus users are women, only 20% of the industry workforce is.
ALBUM member Reading Buses assisted with location filming. Work with Ticketer follows a formal tie-up between Women in Transport and ALBUM that was announced in April.
Speaking about the latest collaboration, Ticketer Senior Marketing Manager Mercedes Llewellyn says: “At Ticketer, we feel very strongly about creating safer public transport and workspaces for women, and we understand that requires a great deal of collaboration and partnership.
“That is why working so closely with both Bus Users UK and Women in Transport is so important. We hope that together, we can foster a culture of inclusivity, empathy and understanding that empowers women to travel and work within our industry with confidence and peace of mind.”
Bus Users UK Chief Executive Claire Walters and Women in Transport Board Member and National Express Sales and Partnerships Director Daljit Kalirai have both welcomed the efforts. Ms Waters notes the importance to women of being able to travel safely, while Ms Kalirai adds that such an assurance “is essential for physical and emotional health.”
