One of Reading Buses’ new Euro 6 Wrights integral Streetdecks has become Ballymena builder’s first non-hybrid bus to have stop-start technology enabled.
The Mercedes-Benz engine stops when the doors are opened, and automatically restarts when the doors close.
The first bus has been enabled and the other five will be upgraded over the coming weeks.
A new symbol on the dash, a green ‘A’, shows when the auto stop-start is operating.
It determines whether to shut the engine down based on the battery voltage, air system pressure, water temperature.
Says Head of Engineering John Bickerton: “This technology is an important part of our fuel saving work and contributes to improving air quality and the environment.”
