- IRTE Skills Challenge returns for 10th year anniversary of coach and bus technician and apprentice competition
- Winners awarded with prizes from Teng Tools and new car driving experience
- Regional version of competition to be staged in Singapore in 2020
The competition for coach and bus technicians and apprentices, the IRTE Skills Challenge, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
SOE Chief Operating Officer Daniel Moir says: “Celebrating the anniversary, we can look back on the extraordinary growth from its launch 10 years ago to the hugely influential competition it is today. Now we will aim to build on that success with new and exciting initiatives.”
One new addition for 2020 will be a technical test based on the joint mechanical and electrical skills base known as mechelec. It reflects the industry’s growing need for multi-skilled technicians who are proficient in both disciplines.
Sponsor Teng Tools will be giving away sets of the latest tools and a new car driving experience will be on offer to the highest scorers.
As part of the celebrations, an overseas Skills Challenge will take place in Singapore, where technicians and apprentices from regional operators will showcase their talent on the big stage.
“The competition has caught the attention of our international colleagues who share our values of raising standards and professionalising industry.
“Part of our success has come from our desire to closely mirror the changes the industry is going through and use that to move the sector forward,” adds Daniel.
