Five Mellor Strata LF-bodied Mercedes-Benz Sprinter low-floor minibuses have entered service with Transdev Blazefield subsidiary The Keighley Bus Company in a further indication that larger bus groups see minibuses as suitable for some lower-demand routes.
A revision to the Keighley Jets network has seen new services introduced and the minibuses have brought public transport within the reach of more of the town’s population.
The five Stratas represent an investment of ÂŁ500,000 by Transdev Blazefield and they are to what the company describes as a high specification.
Says MD Alex Hornby: “We’ve worked in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to take over eight additional routes and bring them into our Keighley Jets network.
“The new services introduce an investment in a fleet of smart and stylish, low-emission Mercedes-Benz-based buses. We’re very much looking forward to welcoming new customers onto the network.”
Town Mayor of Keighley, Councillor Mohammed Nazam, has applauded Transdev Blazefield’s decision to introduce the Stratas, saying that access to the town centre for disabled and less-mobile people has been improved by their arrival.
The deal represents further success for the Strata, which has already secured a number of high-profile orders.
