Design and manufacturing company CAD CAM Automotive (CCA) and Belarusian company BKM Holding have founded a joint venture called Wave Industries that will see electric bus models for both the UK and export markets produced in Coventry.
Wave CEO Martyn Wheeler says that the company will build up to 800 buses per annum by 2025. Wave will launch the new 300 Series electric bus at this year’s Euro Bus Expo, to be held between 3-5 November at the NEC Birmingham. Production will begin in early 2021.
Mr Wheeler says the electric buses are now “ready for market.” A hydrogen fuel cell-electric van, also to be built in Coventry, is at the proof of concept stage.
“Our aim is to be a world leader in the development and manufacture of fully integrated zero-emission vehicles and transport systems. We are bringing together the heritage, expertise, skills base and design excellence of our business with the electric vehicle technology experience of Belarus.”
BKM has already exhibited a battery-electric bus for the UK market. It showed a right-hand drive supercapacitor-equipped model for an operator in Nottingham at Coach & Bus UK in 2019.
