The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has called on the Government to grant him additional powers so that he can tackle non-road pollution sources in the capital.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan is “demanding new and greater standards for river emissions” and says new zones should be created where the burning of increasingly popular solid fuel in wood stoves, and coal is not allowed.
He also is calling on the Government to grant him and London boroughs more power to tackle pollution from construction sites, from plant such as diggers and generators.
Only half of the capital’s air pollution is caused by on-road vehicles.
