David Shipp, 44, has been appointed MD of East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS), a subsidiary of the EYMS Group.
He has taken over from Peter Shipp, 73, who remains Executive Chairman of the Shipp family-owned EYMS Group.
EYMS runs bus service across the region it is named after, from its HQ in Hull and major bases in Scarborough and Bridlington, along with five outstations. It runs 316 vehicles, mainly buses plus a small number of coaches.
David Shipp, one of Peter Shipp’s family of one daughter and two sons, has been with the company over 27 years.
Most recently he was Performance and Business Development Manager after returning from two years as General Manager of the Whittles subsidiary at Kidderminster when that business was sold in 2015.
Peter Shipp’s other son, Jonathan, also works in the business as a depot supervisor.
Peter Shipp says: “After 55 happy years in the bus industry, 37 of them at EYMS, plus my wife having just been forced to close her very successful pre-school after 35 years, due to competition from the nearby primary school, the time has come for me to take a small step back from the day-to-day management of the company, and spend just a little more time with her and the family including our six grandchildren.”
David Shipp started with EYMS in July 1990 as a labourer in Hull depot. He moved into the office two years later and then did a two-year internal management trainee course, afterwards becoming a depot supervisor at Pocklington, Hull City Centre Supervisor and then Assistant Depot Manager for Hull and Beverley before being appointed Assistant Operations Manager in 2004.
