Lothian Buses has renewed its three-year Effitires contract with Michelin Solutions, which will see it supply, fit and manage tyres across Lothian’s 800-strong fleet.
Michelin Solutions will support Lothian with a team of its own tyre technicians working in-house across three Edinburgh depots.
Together, they will be responsible for fitting all Michelin tyres onto rims, as well as conducting fleet-wide tyre inspections to optimise replacement intervals and to spot and rectify issues.
All tyres will be supplied through Michelin’s multiple casing life process including re-grooving and re-treading.
That supports Lothian’s own environmental targets by extracting the maximum performance from every casing on its fleet, in turn reducing raw material usage.
The process of re-grooving a worn tyre when it reaches 3-4mm of remaining tread depth also extends tyre life by up to 25% in the most fuel-efficient state.
Globally, Michelin Solutions is responsible for 400,000 vehicles on tyre contracts. It is dedicated to designing, developing and commercialising solutions for fleets that include coaches and buses and its solutions are tailored to those customers that want to improve their efficiency, productivity and environmental footprint.
