At the end of 2016 more environmental zones were introduced in six departments of France: Gers, Haute-Savoie, Maine-et-Loire, Savoie, Toulouse and Vendee.
They have temporary status, where restrictions may be applied when air pollution exceeds certain values.
A free Green Zones app is available, and it guides traffic – including coaches – through the jungle of local regulations.
In the six recently-announced areas, borders are not fixed, but set individually in the event of an air pollution peak – and the peak can be declared at any time.
