ComfortDelGro has expanded its UK coach portfolio with the acquisition of family-owned P&J Ellis.

The Singapore-headquartered transport group adds the London-based business to its growing UK and Ireland coach operations.

Founded more than 42 years ago by Phil and Janet Ellis, P&J Ellis operates a fleet of 26 executive coaches and employs around 50 staff.

The company will continue to trade from its long-standing Perivale depot, which forms part of the acquisition.

The purchase strengthens ComfortDelGro’s presence in the London coach market alongside its existing Westbus operation in Hayes.

The group also owns Adventure Travel in Cardiff and Swansea, while its wider UK transport portfolio includes Metroline.

Edward Thomas, CEO of ComfortDelGro UK and Ireland Bus and Coach, says: “We are delighted that P&J Ellis is joining ComfortDelGro. It is a business we have admired for some time, with a well-earned reputation for quality, reliability and professionalism in the London market.

“P&J Ellis brings a long and respected heritage, underpinned by a strong and experienced team. Our focus will be on working closely with colleagues, listening carefully and building on the strengths that are already in place, supported by the wider capabilities of ComfortDelGro across the UK and Ireland.”

Mat Ellis, former owner of P&J Ellis, says the family was pleased to have secured the future of the business.

“We are proud of what has been built at P&J Ellis over more than 40 years and pleased to have found new owners in ComfortDelGro,” he says. “Our fantastic team will be in good hands.”

ComfortDelGro says the acquisition forms part of its strategy of investing in established transport businesses with strong operational reputations.

The group operates across 13 countries and has continued to expand its presence in the UK and Ireland through a series of acquisitions in the coach, bus and wider mobility sectors.
