Landmark is reached after eight years in the market; Barnes took its first Irizar integrals during 2015
The number of DAF-engined integral coaches supplied by Irizar UK has passed 400 with the delivery of two i6 models to established buyer Barnes Coaches of Swindon.
Of the pair, one is a 14.1m 61-seat triaxle and the other is a 12.9m two-axle 53-seater. Both have the MX-11 rated at 450bhp and 370bhp respectively and each has ZF’s EcoLife automatic gearbox.
Says Irizar UK Director Julie Hartley: “Reaching the 400-unit landmark in the UK is a significant milestone for both us and our colleagues in Spain. After just eight years in the market, Irizar UK is now established as a real coaching force.
“Our reputation for passenger appeal, easy maintenance and first-class support continues to win us new customers.”
Barnes Coaches purchased its first Irizar integrals in 2015. The latest additions mean that around three-quarters of its fleet complies with Euro 6 standards, says Director Luke Barnes. He adds that the operator expects to keep the coaches for around five years. They will be maintained in-house with the support of Irizar UK’s mobile technicians when required.
