Warrington’s Own Buses has installed 86 AirBubbl units from AirLabs into the cabs of its vehicles to protect drivers from the risk of airborne viruses.

AirBubbl technology filters more than 95% of airborne viruses and contaminated particle matter. Each unit provides over 30,000 litres of clean air per hour. In addition, AirLabs is aiming to install its first AiroSafe passenger units in coaches and buses by October after collaborating with key players in public transport sectors over recent months.

The supplier says that both technologies have the potential to help get passengers back aboard by reducing the risk of virus transmission.

Every member of the Warrington’s Own Buses fleet has the cab mounted AirBubbl unit fitted. They are part of the Cheshire operator’s five steps to safer working approach to public and driver safety.

Says AirLabs CEO Marc Ottolini: “There is increasing acceptance of the role of aerosol transmission of the COVID-19 virus, and that the dose matters, as higher exposures can lead to more severe illness.

“By installing our cutting-edge technology, companies can massively reduce that dose, and therefore the risk of infection. We have had significant global interest in our air cleaning technology since the virus struck. We believe that it can play a major role in reducing the risk of exposure to public transport for drivers and passengers.”

During week commencing 6 July, AirLabs received a $100,000 grant from Barclays and Unreasonable Impact to bring AiroSafe technology to market. AiroSafe is designed to remove airborne viruses and particles from the passenger cabins of public transport vehicles by creating a personal air space for every seat.
