Team Pennine recruitment drive targets regular motorists

North West Yorkshire Transdev subsidiary Team Pennine is launching a recruitment drive – literally – by inviting motorists to try taking the wheel of a bus.

“Be a Team Pennine Driver Day” will take place on 20 November from 1000hrs to 1400hrs at Team Pennine’s Waterloo depot in Huddersfield. Anyone with a standard car licence who is aged over 18 is invited to show up (with evidence of right to work in the UK) and take the wheel of a double-decker.

The intention is to show motorists that driving a bus is within the capabilities of most drivers. For those encouraged by the experience, the operator is offering a fast-track application to join its team and start a new career.

Qualified bus drivers are also invited to look into a career with Team Pennine. As an extra incentive, those who hold a driver’s PSV licence will be given a £1,000 welcome bonus on joining the company. Parent Transdev has also reiterated its promise to replace one in two of the vehicles it took over from previous operator, Yorkshire Tiger, in July.

“Our Be a Team Pennine Driver Day is a chance for motorists aged 18 or over who think they could easily drive a bus through the narrowest of gaps to come along, show us their driving licence and then try it for real – and while they’re here, meet our training team who can show them how it’s done,” says Team Pennine General Manager Joy Devine.

“As well as taking one of our buses for a test drive and showing us what motorists can do, this Saturday’s event will be an ideal opportunity to find out more about joining our friendly team in Huddersfield and Elland and becoming a fully-fledged bus driver with us.

“Our industry leading ‘StepUp’ people development programme also offers plenty of opportunities to progress to more senior roles.”
