Airsym and Zeelo convert school service to zero emission

AirSym and smart bus service platform Zeelo have introduced a zero-emission home-to-school service to the independent Dwight School London. It is operated by a specially branded Yutong TCe12 battery-electric coach.

Use of the TCe12 forms part of Zeelo’s ambition to transition its services to net zero emissions by 2030. They are already carbon neutral via offsetting, including any dead legs.

AirSym has been contracted by Zeelo to operate one of three services provided for Dwight School London. It will support 50 students in the north of the capital. The route is set to replace an existing service as well as attract new passengers and the switch to a zero-emission coach will save a further three cubic tonnes of CO2 per year, Zeelo says.

Speaking about the development, AirSym Managing Director Allen Jey says: “Working with Zeelo has allowed us to secure some of our highest profile and longest-term contracts to service routes for both schools and corporates.

“We have been an operator partner in Zeelo’s network for over a year and we are thrilled to support it in creating the first electric bus route for Dwight School London.” Mr Jey adds that AirSym hopes to work with Zeelo to provide zero-emission transport for more educational establishments.

Observes Zeelo CEO Sam Ryan: “Offsetting carbon emissions goes some way towards helping us to meet our sustainability targets but does not resolve the issue of air quality around schools and educational campuses.

“We are delighted to support Dwight School London with its CO2 reduction plans by enabling the transition of its transport services from diesel to electric vehicles and to help pave the way for all of our education customers to switch to a net-zero transport service.”
