Richard Stevens, Managing Director (MD) of Plymouth Citybus and Go South West, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours for services to transport and to the community.
Richard began his transport career in 1989 as a driver and was appointed MD of Plymouth Citybus in May 2012. He is currently Chair of the Devon and Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the Plymouth Area Business Council, Chair of the Plymouth Growth Board, and Chair of Destination Plymouth.
In addition to his work with strategic partners in Plymouth and as a board member for the Southwest LEP, Richard works within the education environment as the Chair of Governors for City College Plymouth and All Saints Secondary School. He is also one of the King’s Deputy Lieutenants.
“I am absolutely thrilled to receive a MBE in the New Year’s Honours,” he says. “I have been overwhelmed by people’s generous good wishes.
“To be recognised for both my work in the bus industry and as a community and private sector leader makes the award even more special, as it demonstrates the importance of businesses and their teams being great community champions. I am so lucky to work with amazing people in all aspects of my life, it is an absolute truth that I would be nowhere without their support; I would like to thank them all as they are heroes in my eyes.”
Richard pays respect to Go Ahead for its commitment to empowering local managers. That, he says, has made everything achievable. “I aim to continue making a difference for people across our community who need help, particularly our emerging younger generations, for many years to come.” he adds.
