Bus Users UK has added four new Trustees to its board, who it says will bring a wealth of skills, knowledge and expertise to the charity.

Charlie Barnes joins having spent five years with RATP Dev London in its engineering team, including time working on the transition to zero-emission vehicles. She is a founder member of Women in Transport’s Diversity and Inclusion Bus Group and a keen advocate of inclusive policy and practice.

Ms Barnes is now employed by UK Power Networks in its consumer vulnerability team, researching the impact of transport, fuel, water and data poverty on lower income groups.

Laura Creaven brings a background in PR to her appointment as a Trustee by Bus Users UK. She currently works in trust fundraising for St Basils, a charity that engages with young homeless people. Ms Craven is a bus passenger champion for Transport for West Midlands and a passionate advocate for buses and ensuring that they receive equal priority alongside other shared and active travel modes.

Cecelia Osakwe Hibbert is a further addition. She has served as a Councillor on Wolverhampton’s Transport Committee for four years. Ms Hibbert has also worked alongside Bus Users UK on events in her local area and she has a keen interest in transport poverty and its impact on loneliness and social exclusion.

The fourth new Trustee is Passenger CEO Tom Quay (pictured). He has a strong understanding of bus industry technology, a commitment to it serving society’s needs and “a desire to make public transport a genuinely viable alternative to the car.”

Bus Users UK says that appointment of the Trustees is particularly important given the cost-of-living crisis and the importance of affordable and accessible transport to those who depend on it.
