EYMS invests again, with £1.6m order for 10 buses

Six new double deck buses have just gone into service on EYMS routes between Withernsea and Hull, representing over £1m out of a total investment of £1.6m in 10 new buses for the EYMS Group fleet.

The other new buses are four ADL E200MMC 30-seat single decks for Scarborough town routes, locally built at the Plaxton factory in Scarborough. They have replaced older Midi Pointer Darts in the Scarborough and District fleet.

The delivery was immediately followed by an announcement by EYMS Chairman Peter Shipp that it has placed orders for 17 similar buses – five ADL E200MMC and 12 Volvo/MCV double decks – for delivery later this year.

The new double-deckers, on Volvo B5TL chassis with MCV EvoSeti bodies, have free Wi-Fi, and are based at Withernsea’s EYMS depot.

They replace Volvo/Wrightbus double-decks, also with Wi-Fi, introduced onto the Withernsea route last November. They will go to the Hull-Hessle route 66, replacing single deckers.

The Volvo/MCV buses have been bought following EYMS’ experience with this chassis/body combination, which started with a single MCV-bodied double deck on trial two years ago.

Wi-Fi is now on four corridors run by EYMS in the area.

EYMS Chairman Peter Shipp says: “Times are extremely tough for bus operators at the moment, particularly independent private operators such as EYMS, mainly due to central and local government funding cuts and the damaging effect of ever increasing traffic congestion.

“Ideally we need to buy more new buses each year but we still need to do as much as we can afford to update our fleet which would otherwise simply get progressively older and more expensive to maintain.

“And of course we want to provide as many modern buses as possible for our passengers to use and our staff to drive.”
