Southern Vectis takes delivery of seven ADL Enviro400s

Southern Vectis has launched seven new Alexander Dennis Enviro400 buses which will be used on its route 1 from Newport-Cowes.

The Isle of Wight operator unveiled the double-deckers, which represent a £1.7 million investment, to the public at an event in Newport today.

The buses offer USB charging points and contactless ticketing facilities and South Vectis says the seating is more comfortable than on current vehicles.

“We are incredibly proud of these new double decker buses – and this is good news for both commuters and leisure passengers across the Isle of Wight,” says Andrew Wickham, Southern Vectis managing director.

“It is vitally important to us that we make sustainable transport a more attractive proposition, in order to entice people out of their cars – and this investment is a huge step in that direction.

“Reducing congestion and helping to improve air quality is a responsibility we all share, and we’re delighted to report that each of these new double decker buses carries a Euro 6 engine – cleaner than the latest generation of diesel cars.

“I’m very much looking forward to seeing these new vehicles out-and-about, and welcoming even more people on-board – whether they’re travelling with us for work or play.”
